The concept of ontology applied to Deep Water Horizon

CRC will participate in the annual Society for Risk Analysis (SRA) conference in Arlington, December 10-14. This international conference brings together academic, industrial research and risk control practitioners to re-examine the methods and epistemic foundations of the field. Thibaut Eude, PhD student at the CRC, will present his work on the accident of Deepwater Horizon, in partnership with Pr. Gangemi (University Paris Nord – ISTC-CNR Italy), linguist and professor of computer science. It is a question of showing the interest of the concept of ontology to formalize the knowledge on the disasters in order to improve analyzes of the human mechanisms at work. This work allows us to compare the various types of causality expressed in the survey reports and their possible epistemological weaknesses.
